Tea Service
attributed to anonymous, after 1794
Depicted on this service are heroes and heroic feats from Dutch history. The scenes derive from a 1794 pro-Dutch Patriots (a political faction) print. Not only historical heroes, but also contemporary Patriots were presented as worthy role models. A cup of tea served in the home of someone supporting the Patriots thus acquired a political overtone.
