Abstract
"The relationship between Japan and the Netherlands began in 1600 with the arrival of the Dutch ship De Liefde in Kyushu. This partnership led to the establishment of Rangaku learning centers, enabling knowledge exchange and aiding Japan's modernization. For nearly 240 years, the Netherlands was Japan's sole European trading partner. [...] From May 9th to May 29th 2025, the Netherlands Consulate General in Osaka presents an exhibition on the early relationship between Japan and the Netherlands. [...] For this occasion, we worked with the International Research Center for Japanese Studies in Kyoto to create a special manga that celebrates this history"-- NLexpo2025.nl.
