Requiem

Abstract

"Requiem is a meditative inquiry into the aesthetics of silence and inner reflection. The conceptual framework of the work echoes the rhythm of the canonical hours, translating the spiritual experience of time and transience in to a visual sequence. The publication investigates what I define as the 'echoes of the seen'--the intuitive resonance that visual impressions leave within the consciousness. Through the interplay of large-scale haptics and a reduced visual language, the work seeks to facilitate a conscious deceleration of perception. Each chapter consists of a diptych: a color version and a black-and-white version of the same motif. The digital images are overlaid with the texture of a copper plate taken from an old oil painting"-- Artist statement.
